Uses
For the prevention and treatment of iron deficiency anaemias.
Dosage
Prevention: infants 4-6 weeks to mixed feeding: 0.2ml per day (5mg elemental iron). Higher doses of up to 0.08ml per kg body weight (2mg elemental iron per kg) might be needed to cover the needs of growing, exclusively breastfed infants. Older infants and children up to 6 years: 0.5-1.2ml per day (12.5-30mg elemental iron). Older children: 2.4ml per day (60mg elemental iron). Adults and the elderly: 2.4-4.8ml per day (60-120mg elemental iron). Treatment: paediatric: 0.12-0.24ml (3-6mg elemental iron) per kg body weight, up to a maximum of 8ml (200mg elemental iron) daily in 2 or 3 divided doses. Adults: 4ml once or twice per day (100-200mg elemental iron).
